Three cities. Three days. One vibrant cultural movement celebrating African heritage.

Celebrating African Heritage Together
In a time when many communities are navigating uncertainty and disconnection, Africa Day creates space to gather, be seen, and celebrate the richness of African and African diasporic cultures.
Now in its third year, Africa Day has grown into a multi-city experience across Sacramento, Los Gatos, and San Jose—bringing together families, artists, and cultural leaders through powerful, community-centered programming.
This year, we expand with intention—deepening our impact and opening doors for new communities to connect.

Our Path forward
You’re invited to be part of what we’re building.
More Than an Event
Africa Day is designed to meet this moment.
Across three days, we create environments where culture is not just presented—but experienced. Where stories are shared across generations. Where communities feel seen, valued, and connected.
From outdoor festivals to intimate cultural exchanges, each experience is rooted in:
Celebration of African and diasporic identity
Community healing and connection
Access to arts, culture, and education
Three Cities. Three Unique Experiences.

Led by Community. Built on Culture.
Africa Day is produced by AWỌ, a female-led nonprofit founded by an immigrant and rooted in storytelling, cultural preservation, and community empowerment.
“AWỌ,” meaning skin and color in Yoruba, reflects a vision of a world where cultural exchange breaks barriers and builds understanding.
Founder Folake Phillips has been recognized as one of California’s Women of the Year (2026), and AWỌ has received a Board of Supervisors Commendation (2025) for its community impact.
